E71 Impressions

  • Nokia E71 Review @ GypsyBandito -- overall, a 6/10; but that would've been higher if I wasn't a video blogger.
  • solid phone, really an upgrade for business men in suits that want good battery life.   qik/seesmic/bambuser do work - philcampbell.
  • Sexy for the business crowd, doesn't really work as a creative content producer -- Ms. Jen.

We are all getting E71s, so please either review the E71 on your blog or site and link to it here

add your review to the E71 Wiki Page

Around Helsinki

September 11 (formal program starts at 20:00)

Anybody else besides Roland going to be there early on the 11th?

Yeah, Steve is going to be there around 9am. Roland - Cool, we'll hang out for the Nokia Store, Nokia House Visit and cycling and countryside perhaps!

I'll be there early too. We'll probably be able to meet up at breakfast (see schedule below). My Finnish friend is gonna come to the hotel around 11am to take me around. We can make a group of it or just see what happens. - Micki - Roland, See you at Breakfast, hopefully!

[Thej] I will reach by 1pm. Anybody for lunch?

Roland's tentative September 11 program

(any or all of the following)

  • bicycling or walking tour of the city - Roland, I'd be up for biking around.  Depending on the time, maybe even trying to get out into the countryside some (Steve).
  • informal tour of Nokia House in Espoo organized by Stefan C and Jussi! Sign me up please! (Rahul +1)
  • Nokia Flagship Store in Helsinki (a MUST since i have a shopping list of things to buy! GPS and DT-22 Tripod Adapters are MUST buys for me)
  • bicycling around the city
  • Kiasma Museum as suggested by Micki!
  • Getting a Pay as you Go SIM for my mobile at a Elisa shop and ask for a "Kolumbus" prepaid sim card. You can get unlimited 3G for a week for only 6,90 eur, yay! according to awesome mobile blogger Stefan (Nick - according to the email I got from WOMWorld, Nokia will be providing us with a SIM card for the duration of the event.)
  • Any other musts? (Best place for an espresso? Best bike shop? Best gadget place? Best place for a Finnish moment (whatever that is, that's not in a sauna :-) ! ? )?

What are you doing with your free time?

I have a friend  who lives in Finland and has offered up some suggestions. Let me know if you want to do any of these things and we can put a little group together. - Micki

Anyone installing Nokia Chat? So we can all get in contact?

Nick Bouton said

at 11:01 am on Sep 5, 2008

Okay, I just got my E71 via FedEx at the office today... @roland, it was Donna who told me it had been shipped out on Wednesday.

Roland Tanglao said

at 1:09 pm on Sep 5, 2008

Nick Bouton said

at 2:03 pm on Sep 5, 2008

Some download links and whatnot would be appreciated.. I haven't used a Nokia Symbian device for a year or so, so I'm a bit rusty getting it up and running with useful apps. :)

Roland Tanglao said

at 2:45 pm on Sep 5, 2008

here's a start: shozu (shozu.com), qik (qik.com), google maps, sports tracker (sportstracker.nokia.com), nokia chat, nokia email (i don't normally use or enjoy email on mobile so i don't know how good this is!), jaiku

Roland Tanglao said

+1 on Nokia chat, i'll finally be able to usse it since other people will be using it unlike in Canada where nobody (at least none of my friends) uses it!

Nick Bouton said

at 4:54 pm on Sep 5, 2008

@rahul slick, will check that out tonight once I get a chance to play with the device.

@roland thanks for the starter list. they did say it came pre-loaded with a twitter client, right?

Erick Macapagal said

at 5:01 pm on Sep 5, 2008

@Nick It came with Preinstalled apps like what you mentioned Twibble a twitter client, WeOffset, Joikuspot, and some mapping app for Helsinki..

Really excited to meet people. if you have flickr, qik, seesmic accounts please let me know your username - i have something special i am testing over the 3 days. The e71 came yesterday and i have been playing with it since, got bambuser installed (not qik because it requires a sim - will do that in helsinki) - anyway. Good to meet you all! :)

Erick Macapagal said

at 11:21 am on Sep 6, 2008

Just found out that there are 35 of us who got invited.. and I only see 20 names on the list.. excluding Jussi since he's from Nokia, so that makes 19.. Were still missing 16 names..

Roland Tanglao said

at 4:04 pm on Sep 6, 2008

great detective work erick, let's get those 16 here , perhaps some of those 16 couldn't make it like ricky cadden?!?

Roland Tanglao said

i am enjoying my e71 and have started a wiki page for my review, looking forward to exchaning e71 and the future of mobile and social media thoughts in person with you all!

Roland Tanglao said

at 3:07 pm on Sep 7, 2008

i am still going to buy my own SIM at the airport if i can find the Elisa shop in my jet lagged stupor :-) , the plan being to use the Nokia SIM for my E71 and the SIM I buy for the N82 (excessive i know but what the heck :-) ! )

Steve Dembo said

at 11:24 am on Sep 8, 2008

I had to fax FedEx a form for customs, but got the phone the next day. Threw in my current AT&T sim and it worked just fine. No edge though, seems to be the e71-1, not NAM version. I figure I'll bring my N95 and put my current sim in that, and then put the Nokia sim in the e71 while there. Dying to try qik on this and see how much of a difference the 2mp difference makes!

Michael Rochester said

at 11:54 am on Sep 8, 2008

Hi Michael here from the UK. I'm not a blogger, and I've only got an invitation to this event because someone else dropped out last minute! I look forward to meeting you all in Helsinki on Thursday.

Roland Tanglao said

at 12:15 pm on Sep 8, 2008

the E71 is the E71 and therefore does North American 3G

Roland Tanglao said

at 12:16 pm on Sep 8, 2008

i meant E71-1! (i.e. the European versin which doesn't do North American 3G only European 3G)

Nick Bouton said

at 3:45 pm on Sep 8, 2008

@erick guess we can tell them about the wiki when we arrive. :)

Nick Bouton said

at 3:49 pm on Sep 8, 2008
